About Newcastle Heritage

Newcastle, like most UK cities is rich in history. To commemorate this rich heritage the city has a surprising number of information panels or heritage panels. Complimenting these panels are the more terse ‘plaques’ which tend to commemorate individuals or events. Plaques tend to be more robust than heritage panels, providing they have been securely mounted, while information (heritage) panels are more vulnerable, to graffiti and to inclement weather. Sometimes these damaged panels get replaced, often they do not, hence the need for a record somewhere. Ouseburn is a good case in point, nearly all of its panels have vanished over the years.

This site is one in a series of web sites aimed at helping people understand Newcastle a little better through things they can see as they walk around the city. The other sites are Newcastle Art and See Newcastle
