St George – J.Reid 1920

Royal Tank Regiment war memorial. A remarkable sculpture, a striking face. The helmet has come to be associated with the Wehrmacht from World War 2, so worth bearing in mind that the sculpture is from 1920, so presumably any resemblance to the German army helmet is accidental.

Standing on one corner of St Thomas’ Church, the monument is quite high, a camera with a zoom lens might help visitors appreciate the detail on the face.
